ISAP-X Symposium 2011

The tenth symposium of the International Society for Aviation Photography (ISAP X) took place June 1-4 in San Diego, California. More than 110 aviation photographers—novices and industry icons alike—converged from locations as distant as Poland, Japan, and India. This year, ISAP was privileged to view MV-22 Osprey operations at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and photograph the renowned antique aircraft and aviation memorabilia collection of Bill Allen of San Diego. The group also visited the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park and toured its restoration shop where the newly painted Boeing P-26 Peashooter was on display.

One tradition of ISAP is the annual group photo, taken by Joe Oliva. Here’s a larger version of this year’s. Joe has never appeared in an ISAP group picture, as he has taken every one since ISAP I in 2001. This arrangement works for everyone, as the attendees receive a quality memento of the gathering and Joe, who loathes to have his picture taken, remains on the side of the camera he prefers.
