Now that some classes are done and recorded for Fotopromos, I had wanted to go back and start a series of blog posts that just shared some of the gear choices I was making from the start. \u00a0Figured it be kind of a mix between a Behind the Scenes look at what i&#8217;m building and a gear chat. The fact that Kim let me use a power tool &#8211; let alone a tool that cuts stuff shocks me to this day. \u00a0Keep special note to the sweeping Kim is doing. \u00a0What is getting\u00a0rid of?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5964 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-570x428.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6255\" width=\"570\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-570x428.jpg 570w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-250x188.jpg 250w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_6255.jpg 3264w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These guys. \u00a0Apparently these guys lay these little eggs that were all over the wood. \u00a0We just wanted to get rid of them before we threw them in the truck. \u00a0Little did we know that being around those eggs, sweeping them, and handling it in a tank top is a very very bad idea. \u00a0The next couple of days my torso would be covered completely in hives from the allergic reaction I had to the little cocoons. \u00a0But hey &#8211; we got reclaimed wood.. so that&#8217;s good.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5957 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-570x284.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3148\" width=\"570\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-570x284.jpg 570w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-600x299.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-250x125.jpg 250w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1-768x383.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3148-1.jpg 3264w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For lights on the set, i&#8217;ve gone with a combination of LEDs and hot lights. \u00a0The main and fill lights are 1000w hot lights &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/195877-REG\/Altman_175Q_1000_Watt_Fresnel_120VAC.html\" target=\"_blank\">Altman 175Q Fresnels<\/a>. \u00a0Light&#8217;s being softened by scrims in front of them that work well. \u00a0 To accent all of this, i&#8217;m using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fjwestcott.com\/lighting\/flex\" target=\"_blank\">Westcott Flex LED 1&#215;1 Lights<\/a>\u00a0at top right and left to help with hair and accent light off the shoulder\/separator. \u00a0We are also using another pair of 1000w lights in other spots, focusing Fresnels to add more punch to the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Starting the studio from scratch means i&#8217;ve had to sit and think about what kinds of things I can repurpose from video shoots to still shoot. \u00a0Rather than buying a bunch of stands that are specific to each, I went with going with solid stands out the gate. \u00a0Figured I can get a couple of these and not have to worry about replacing them in the future.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5960 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-570x472.jpeg\" alt=\"Kupo2\" width=\"570\" height=\"472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-570x472.jpeg 570w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-600x497.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-150x124.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-250x207.jpeg 250w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2-768x636.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo2.jpeg 984w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The main stands that I am using here are the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kupogrip.com\/40-master-c-stand-w-turtle-base-kit-stand-2-5-grip-head-40-grip-arm-with-hex-stud-black\/\" target=\"_blank\">Master C stands from Kupo<\/a>. \u00a0I wound up with four of these. \u00a0They stack well, are solid as a rock, and can be used for both video and photo. \u00a0Also- because of the way the feet are, they can be positioned really close together (i&#8217;ll show how that helps in a photo shoot post later). They are heavy &#8211; which is what I wanted so as to not worry about things tipping over &#8211; but I&#8217;m sandbagging these when bigger lights come into play here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5961 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-570x409.jpeg\" alt=\"Kupo3\" width=\"570\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-570x409.jpeg 570w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-600x430.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-150x108.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-250x179.jpeg 250w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3-768x550.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Kupo3.jpeg 992w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The other stands that we are using for the Altmans are the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kupogrip.com\/high-roller-stand\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kupo High Roller stands<\/a>. \u00a0I wound up getting 2 of these. \u00a0Wanted to get these for three reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heavier light that needed to be moved around &#8211; I&#8217;ve got wheels.<\/li>\n<li>Lights need to be quickly moved around in photography shoots.<\/li>\n<li>Lights need to fly pretty high &#8211; this will do it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The one thing that I wish I had gotten the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kupogrip.com\/photo-baby-boom-black-aluminum\/\" target=\"_blank\">Photo Baby Booms<\/a> for the high roller stands. \u00a0I think that using the arms that came with the C-stands are OK.. but definitely need to be counterbalanced if I use something heavier. \u00a0Just think I would need a little more sturdiness and a little more reach here. \u00a0But I can get those at a later point.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it. \u00a0Prob a little too much TMI on the whole &#8220;hives across my body&#8221; thing, but it could have been worse. \u00a0I was actually standing next to my friend (who also happens to be my doctor) at Universal Studios when I decided to tip my shirt in line at Harry Potter and show her. \u00a0The person behind got a good look.. \u00a0Then reached forward. \u00a0I thought they were going to give me advice on what the hives were..<\/p>\n<p>.. then they said &#8220;Just wanted to let you know I watch all your shows&#8230; &#8221; \u00a0 I felt like such a tool&#8230; \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The last couple of months have been pretty busy from me, just in setting up a studio from&hellip;","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":5957,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"csco_singular_sidebar":"","csco_page_header_type":"","csco_page_load_nextpost":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[10,36],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-5955","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-blog","8":"category-studio-build","9":"cs-entry"},"amp_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5955"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=5955"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5955\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5967,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5955\/revisions\/5967"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/5957"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=5955"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=5955"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/aboutrc.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=5955"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
