When I was out at WPPI with Pete Collins, we decided to take some time to go out and shoot in one of our most favorite places – Nelson. Nelson is this area that has a bunch of old things collected into Garages. Old cars, a crashed plane, and lots of decayed things against a desert backdrop just make for great shooting. I was even more fortunate to share the day with Bill Pekala, Bill Fortney, Mark Kettenhofen, and Brien Aho of Nikon Professional Services.

While the sun was setting out in Nelson, I asked Mark to stand in front of a car for a portrait. Rather than shooting with the sun behind me, I opted to shoot with the sun coming straight at me. HDR always poses problems with bald blue skies, bright light, and portraits. Why not try to make a portrait, of a person, in HDR, against a blue sky, with a sun facing you? With a great balance of HDR and post processing, the portrait came out neat.
