Sitting here planning my day my buddy Mike – and just wanted to give you an update on the Think Tank Airport Roller Derby that I packed for the trip.
Ive been a big fan of the Thinktank International bag for a rolling bag for airports, but there has always been a couple of things i’ve just had to get used to:
- I’d place my laptop on top of the dividers, and seriously squish all of the gear on the lid so that all of it would fit.
- When this thing is loaded up (and it packs a TON), dragging it when it rolls could be problematic. Youre pulling a lot of ‘heavy’ . Add to that navigating onto a plane and it makes it worse.
What I didnt like about rollers was that you couldn’t tip them when you needed it.
That’s until now.
The loadout for this bag on this trip:
- D810 (Loaner I got from NPS – figured i’d bring it out and try to get a shot before I give it back at end of week)
- Nikon 16-35
- Nikon 24-70
- Nikon 70-200
- Nikon 35 prime 1.4
- Fujifilm X-T1 16 MP Compact System Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only)
- Fujifilm XF 18-55mm F2.8-4.0 Lens Zoom Lens
- Fujifilm XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 Zoom Lens
- Fujifilm XF 18mm F2.0 Lens
- Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 Camera Lens
- Fujifilm XF 23mm F1.4 R Wide-Angle Lens
- Fujifilm XF 10-24mm F4 OIS Camera Lens
- Fujifilm External Grip
- Macbook Pro
- Wacom Intuos Pro Small Tablet
- Newtrent Battery for Ipad
- Gtech Mini USB3 Drive
- Cables power supplies and more cables
All of it fit.. with room to spare! Couldve added a couple of flashes in the front byt why push it. It also has the steel cable that I like for when youre on the road and want to secure the bag.
Best part about it? The bad can roll on fours , and tip back to drag. Because all four wheels rotate, the bag can also tip on its side and roll. This is a GODSEND to get down the aisle with a supremely heavy bag!
So far so good with it. Definitely recommended!
Very cool. My main roller right now is the Airport Security but I’ve been looking for something that’s a little more… agile? I may head down to Pro Photo Supply and see if they have one of these on hand to check it out.
