When i set out to make vigia.co, I thought that I was doing it to help my immigrant brothers and sisters out there trying to make things better for themselves and in the community. Working at a University – I had a little bit of a hold on hope that it wouldnt get to campuses.
With the Visas being revoked for students that are here to get a better education, It looks like that hope is lost. Youre starting to see universities cluster together in Mututal Defense Compacts – voting that an attack on one is an attack on them all – and they would pool resources and strategies to defend themselves.
I think that is awesome… and I think its now a time of need for these folks.
So I used the codebase of Vigia to create a new ste – DeICER. Will have some of the features of vigia, along with a couple of new ones.
This one will show content and deploy AI chatbots that can talk and ask questions and offer resources in English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, and Arabic. They are guided by rights from places like LULAC, ACLU, SPLC – but also guided on university guidelines and information shared online by the AAUP.
In fact, because of the universities entering in thee compacts (which I learned from the The Rachel Maddow Show ), I made a list of those Rachel talked about and created geofence areas for them. Now you can click on the dropdown and select any of those universites that are entertaining a compact and get right to their map.
Its mobile friendly, so its intended to be used on a phone. Im not making iphone apps or android apps to try to keep it anonymous.
I still feel sketchy about adding the buymeacoffee link at the footer… so im not going to. Im just going to hope a big dollar person comes and helps out or something.
Its getting really scary out there… I think getting folks activated is going to be of utmost importance.
